How to get Google Nexus in India

Google launched its own Android handset Nexus in Las Vegas a day before CES 2010.  But for us Indians it will always be a pain here in India (Mostly Tech Freaks!) to get hands on the Smart Phone after waiting pathetic amount of months or even years (if not). BTW the Nexus handset is only availabe in four countries the US, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. While Surfing Online I  came across a suggestion by gamaze. You will incur some extra shipping costs but if you really can’t wait, here’s what to to:

    



     1. Download and install the free Hotspot Shield software. This will protect your location and IP address so that Google will allow you to access their phone store order pages.

    2. Sign up for a US based shipping address at MyUSABox. Their standard service costs $5 per package and they take the charge for your first package on registration.

    3. Sign up for a Google Checkout account. If you already have a Google or Gmail account, you can add that easily through your Google account settings. Note that you can use any international shipping address and credit card for this purpose, it does not have to be the MyUSABox address you just signed up for.

    4. Order the $530 unlocked version of the phone from the Google Phone Store. Make sure you add the MyUSAbox shipping address and Google Account billing address to the order.

    5. Wait for your Nexus One to arrive to MyUSABox. You should get notified by email as soon as it arrives.

    5. Log in to MyUSABox and forward your box to your home address, it should arrive within a few days.

Airtel launches Twitter by SMS

Twitter has tied up with India's largest mobile services provider, Bharti Airtel, to allow its subscribers to send and receive Twitter messages using SMS (short message service), The partnership means that a huge population can now send Twitter messages at standard rates and receive them for free.

In the Official Press Release from Twitter had posted,

Twitter is committed to fostering the open exchange of information because we passionately believe it can have a positive global impact. When people can exchange information freely and publicly they are able to accomplish great things. As powerful as the Internet has become for the democratization of information, its range is limited when compared to mobile texting—a format uniquely native to Twitter. Reliance to send novels via SMS

We've all heard of audio books, ebooks and more recently 'classic' old school paper ones. But the latest innovation to hit the written word is SMS Books! That's right, Reliance Communications plans to dole out SMS Novels in India. Perhaps this move is in light of the dearth of data-enabled cell phones in the country, and the small fraction actually connected to data services. The novel Deaf Heaven will be sent to subscribers through a total of 90 SMSs over a period of thirty days. The pricing is affordable; subscribers will be charged Rs. 30 for the full book, which works out to an affordable Re. 1 per day. The only trouble is that while reading an actual book we tend to keep it aside when we want, not when there are no more pages continuing the story. So in this SMS delivery mechanism there shoudl be a way for subscribers to ask for the next set of messages, since most people wouldn't want to wait until the next day to continue the story.

Fighting the SMS Spam Messages

Spam and junk emails are a thing of the past. More recently spam through Short Messaging Service [SMS] has become quite a big thing. Most of you guys might have already faced such an issue of receiving pointless SMS ads and offers that never seem to stop even after activating certain servicing to stop receiving these messages from their service provider. So how does one counter these spam messages ?

Not only in India are we facing this problem, but in China too it is not unusual to get at least a dozen SMSes in a single day. Well China has come up with an interesting way to keep the spam under control by limiting the number of SMSes that a single number can send per day. Now you might be thinking how absurd this is, taking away the right to send messages whenever one needs to, but relax it's not that bad either. They have come up with really good numbers that should keep people happy, as a single number cannot send more than 200 messages per hour or 1,000 messages per day on weekdays. For the weekend holidays, the SMS count goes upto 500 per hour or a total of 2000 in a day.
