Messenger v10.0.0.1102 incorporates many bug fixes, including some bugs related to new video call feature, and improves on overall stability of the product. Yahoo! Messenger 10 also allows user to troubleshoot with detailed connection log, helpful when user cannot login to Yahoo! Messenger despite repetitive attempts.

Helpful Registry Tweaks for Google Talk

Statutory Warning : Registry Hacking can be injurious to you PC's Health.

Tweaking your registry can enable Google Talk to perform just the way you want it to. Make sure that you follow these steps carefully since altering the wrong values may have unexpected results at your end.


  • Click 'Start | Run' and type 'regedit' and click OK. The registry Editor will open up. Edit or create the following values to suite your needs.
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options | show_pin : If the 'show_pin' value is 1 then a pin appears near the minimize button. This pin ensures that the current window appears above all other applications.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options| view_show_taskbutton : If the 'view_show_taskbutton value' is 0 then windows hides the taskbar button. Only the tray icon is displayed when the Google Talk application window is shown.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options|away_inactive : If the value is set as 1 then the status will automatically set as Away after a specified number of minutes.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options|inactive_minutes : This key defines the number of minutes to change status to Away [if auto-away is turned on]

Connect to any IM Service, without any Apps

Meebo has gained popularity over the last few years because of its ability to connect to multiple accounts simultaneously. It doesn't need any kind of installation, instead it allows you to chat directly from your browser. For those of you, who are not yet familiar with the site, simply visit the site: www.meebo.com.


Firefox
provides an extended support for Meebo in the form of an add-on. This makes it possible to load Meebo without typing the URL of the website in your address bar and waiting for it to load. The Meebo application will appear on the Firefox sidebar the moment you this application is installed.
  • Visit the site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5700
  • Click the "Add to Firefox" button.
  • In the next page click "Accept and Install".
  • Click "Install" in the resulting dialog box that appears.
  • Once the add-on is installed you will be notified about the same with a message box. Click "Restart Firefox" to restart the application. This is necessary for changes to take effect.
  • If you do not see the restart button,you can do it manually as well.
  • After restarting Firefox, click "View |Sidebar | Meebo".
  • Meebo will open up in your sidebar.
  • Select the service that you would like to chat from.
  • Enter the username and password in the respective text boxes and click "Sign On".
  • This will automatically log you into the site and will display the list of contacts along the left margin of your browser window.
  • Click on the name of any contact you would like to chat with. The chat window will open up in the browser, on the website.
  • You can open any number of chat windows as required.

Hidden Smileys and Emotions in GTalk

GTalk has its own list of available smileys. Using most of them is simple since they have the same codes as their Yahoo! Messenger or Live Messenger counterparts. GTalk smileys have an added dimensions to the way they express your emotions. They are available in three different styles, Classic, Round and Square. However, the code remains the same for each type. The problem is that most of these aren't available in the popup that display the smileys.


The table below displays the list of available Smileys and Emotions with GTalk. This includes both, the hidden smileys and the one that are displayed in the pop-up.
